We recommend the use of doulas, especially for first time mothers, to aid with labor support. Doulas are professionally trained labor support providers experienced in giving encouragement, emotional support and concrete suggestions for comfort in labor. A doula by no means replaces the support of your partner; however doulas are expert at decreasing partner anxiety and helping partners to provide more effective support.
